Why it matters

A RAND review of decades of studies found that people who took part in education while locked up had 43% lower odds of returning to prison. In 2023, about 70% of people in U.S. jails had not been convicted of the charge they were held on (Bureau of Justice Statistics). We ask Marion County to include classroom, trade-shop, kitchen and garden space in any new or renovated jail.

What’s happened

Raised by residents — not yet carried to the county.

This is a petition to your elected officials — like the clipboard at the courthouse door. It does not put anything on the ballot; in Arkansas and most states that takes ink signatures from registered voters. Signatures are counted, not verified — one per browser; the delivered copy removes duplicates. Like everything here, petitions can’t campaign for candidates or ballot measures, or name county staff.
